The Company

We have performed all over Norwich, beginning with the Sir Walter Roy theatre and more recently the Maddermarket as well as in our current home The Playhouse. Threshold have been lucky to premiere several shows in the East Anglian amateur scene including 2004’s Spend, Spend, Spend (which earned the honourable attendance of Viv Nicholson, of whom the shows is based on) and 2018’s Elf! The Musical.

Across the years Threshold has attracted and benefited from the amazing talents of some of the best performers, crew and directorial teams which has helped us win various awards, including NODA East’s 2008 Best Production for our performance of The Hired Man as well as Best Performance in 2017 for Spamalot. One of our main goals is to provide stage and show-based opportunities for budding new and seasoned members of the Norwich theatre scene and ultimately to keep supporting the amazing hobby of theatre that we all love so much.

YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN

Amateur theatre group? Pah – we certainly saw no sign of anything amateur in sight.’  Enjoy Norwich

It’s alive! Threshold Theatre Company returned to the Playhouse in 2023 with Mel Brook’s electrifying musical, ‘Young Frankenstein’!

‘In summary, “Young Frankenstein” at Norwich Playhouse is a laugh-out-loud experience that should not be missed. With its delightful cast, infectious humour, and West End-worthy quality, it’s a show that will leave you grinning from ear to ear.’  Norfolk Local Guide

A Chorus line

‘The very definition of an ensemble piece, Threshold Theatre Company’s production of A Chorus Line showcases the talents of a strong cast of upcoming musical theatre stars… This amateur production feels every inch the professional show‘.  Cultivated

Performed at the Norwich Playhouse in May/June 2022.

One of the longest running musicals in New York theatre history, this stunner of a show examines one day in the lives of a group of dancers, all vying for a spot in the “chorus line” of a Broadway musical – 17 performers will be put through their paces and only eight will make the cut. But the audition takes an unexpected turn as the director invites the auditionees to open up about their lives and what brought them into theatre.

‘A goosebump worthy performance in every possible way!’  Outline Online

LEGALLY BLONDE

‘A fast moving, lively and full-on energetic production obviously enjoyed by the company.’  NODA

Legally Blonde was performed at the Norwich Playhouse in 2019. Based on the hit comedy film with Reese Witherspoon the show follows pink-clad heroine Elle Woods as she charms her way into Harvard Law School in pursuit of love. Tackling issues surrounding stereotypes and sexism with good humour, all the while maintaining the perfect blend of romance, comedy and heart – with a key message about always staying true to yourself. With Irish river dancing, hilariously funny songs and breath-taking dance routines on offer, if you’re looking for the perfect night out to kick off your summer, the evidence is all here. Case closed!

‘Powered by a great script and lively musical numbers this is a show that sends everyone home happy and singing along, and has given some of our local stars a chance to shine on stage. Keep your eyes out for this crew in the future!’  Norwich Eye
